No Task due to rain.
Thursday 14-Oct-2010

SMS INFO +++ Window Open 12:20-16:00 * Takeoff -> Tp1: 139027 (2km) -> Tp2: 136071 (2km) -> Open Distance -> LastTaskTime 17:30 +++ END SMS INFO

The conditions continue to get better. Cloudbase got up to ~2600m (1200m above launch) today and the winds were blowing.  Everyone got off the mountain fine and headed  in the direction of the 2 waypoints. The going was pretty quick (at least for this week) with lots of pilots flying at base most of the time. The famous story of the day was a fire at about 30 km out where a group of pilots was getting 8+m/s up in the smoke, lots of smiling faces there. Once again the winds turned on us at around 60kms out which pretty much shut everyone down. The longest flights were around 70kms today.
Last day tomorrow amd we got rain coming, hopefully it will hold off for us to get one more task in.

Well we finally had a valid task today.  Conditions were looking really good for the day and everyone was excited.  A 76 km waypoint was put in the task to keep the retrieval easy but after that point it ws free distance any direction.  Most pilots took off and headed down the ridge line taking advantage of the easy lift to get a quick 15 kms before jumping over the back. Once again the going was slow because of the low cloudbase and many pilots landed only 15-20 kms on the higher ground.  About 35kms into the task the wind switched on us and the last 15kms of the lead group was done struggling into the headwind.  The longest flight today was around 52kms with another 5 pilots in the 40+km range.
The forecast has rain coming but hopefully we can squeeze another task in tomorrow before the front shows up.

Tuesday 12-Oct-2010

SMS INFO +++ Window Open 12:15-16:00 * Takeoff -> Tp1: 259041 (2km) -> Tp2: 238071 (2km) -> Open Distance -> LastTaskTime 17:30 +++ END SMS INFO

Conditions are starting to work.  Everyone got off the mountain well and started for the task.  A few people bombed out in front of the launch, but were able to get back up quickly to relaunch.   Conditions were weak but also a bit rough. There were 2 reserves thrown today but luckily both pilots landed safely.  The going was very slow, the route and the conditions with some head wind batteling didn´t let the pilots get very far. Tadeu Guiao from Brazil was the winner of the day, but unfortunately the task wasn´t valid once again for XC-Open scoring for lack of pilots flying the minimum validation distance (15% of the pilots past 20km). It was good to get back up to cloudbase however.

SMS INFO +++ Window Open 12:30-16:00 * Takeoff -> Tp1: 148013 (2km) -> Tp2: 158053 (2km) -> Open Distance -> LastTaskTime 17:30 +++ END SMS INFO

SMS INFO +++ TASK stopped at 13:43. due to CB and rain on course, local free flying still ok +++ END SMS INFO

Well we´re are getting closer everyday.  Today we had good looking conditions with wind blowing up the front and nice big cumis spotting the sky.  Everyone got off the mountain fine and up close to base pretty quickly.  About 15 pilots were on their way to a nice cross when the cumis started going ballistic with thunder and rain closing in fast.

Once again the task was stopped and not valid.  It has to be tomorrow, this evening one of the pilots even shaved off his beard to help the conditions come around.  Let´s see if it works.

Sunday 10-Oct-2010

SMS INFO +++ Window Open 12:20-15:00 * Takoff -> Tp1: 259041 (2km) -> Tp2: 235070 (2km) -> Open Distance -> LastTaskTime 17:30 +++ END SMS INFO

Well things are getting a little better here in Araxa.  The task was not validated today for lack of minimum distance but at least most pilots we able to get their feet off the ground and get near some clouds. Unfortunately the conditions were not strong enough to cover any ground. Let´s all think positive for tomorrow.

Saturday 09-Oct-2010

SMS INFO 12:25 from takeoff.
No task today due to constant strong wind from south.

Once again the task was cancelled due to winds blowing from the back of the mountain. The forecast is calling for better winds tomorrow.  The pilots stayed at launch till the evening to enjoy the festivities; quadcycle tours, live music and lots of beer was flowing.

Friday 08-Oct-2010

Today all pilots went to the take off. After a cold front has passed through in the night, the weather was fine and sunny, but the wind was strong and from the left, so it was impossible to fly a training task. For the next days the forecast is good with light winds and sunshine. Tonight at 20:00 local time there will be the official welcome & safety briefing.

After a front finally left the Araxa area, sunny skies blessed us for our first task day at the XC-Open Araxa.  Everyone arrived at the launch very optimistic because of beautiful cumulus formations filling the skies. Unfortunately the winds kept blowing from the back of the mountain leading the organization to cancel the day´s task.  Many pilots stayed the afternoon though to enjoy the open bar provided by the organization.  Tomorrow looks good
