FAQ: What is a FAI Cat 2 competition and what a FAI 3 class glider ?

FAI stay for Fédération Aéronautique Internationale and is The World Air Sports Federation.
Look for "Members section" to locate your NAC (National Aero Club) as a member of FAI.

FAI Cat 2 competitions
are type of competitions listed in the FAI Sporting Calendar.

There are two types
* FIRST CATEGORY EVENTS (FAI Cat 1 event)
   World Air Games, as approved by the General Conference.
   World and Continental Regional Championships, as approved by the FAI Air Sport Commissions
* SECOND CATEGORY EVENTS (FAI Cat 2 event)
   Other international sporting events organized by or under the authorisation of NACs. (National Aero Clubs)
For more details about FAI events, classification, registration, participation and much more, please read FAI Sporting code documents. If you are a FAI sporting license holder (given by your NAC to you)  to attend a FAI event, then you have to know and accept the FAI Sportingcode.

Gilder Class FAI-3
is a Type of Aircraft definition for Paragliders, from the main FAI class "O".
There are many General Classes, for example:
Class A, Balloons
Class D, Gliders & Motor Gliders
Class F, Model Aircraft
Class G, Parachutes
Class O, Hang Gliders
Class S, Space Models
... and more.

A paraglider is a subclass of "Class O, Hang Gliders".
Inside of Class O we have for instance:
- FAI class 1 = Flexible Wing Hang Glider
- FAI class 5 = Rigid Wing Hang Glider
- FAI class 3 = any Paraglider (from construction point of view)
... and more.
